Naming Day Ceremonies

"Sarah performed a Naming Day ceremony for our little boy and it was such a lovely personal ceremony.  Not many people have heard of a Naming ceremony and didn't know what to expect but so many people came to us and said how lovely it was with all the personal little details that Sarah added in afterwards. Thank you so much Sarah!"

What Is A Naming Ceremony?

Did you know 48.6% of adults in the UK don't follow religion?  So why are there still so many opting to have their children christened?  There are two simple answers:

1 - They don't know there is any other option

2 - It is "what's done"/to appease other family members

Did you also know that a naming day could be the perfect alternative?  In fact more parents than ever are opting for naming ceremonies...here are a few reasons why:

Welcome the Child

"We had waited so long to be parents that we wanted a really special way of welcoming our daughter to our family.  Neither of us go to church so a christening just didn't seem right.  The ceremony Sarah created was absolutely perfect and all our guests commented on how lovely is was.  We were even able to ask our two best friends to be God Parents!  Thank you so much Sarah!"

Laura & Dean, Colwyn Bay

Make Promises to the Child

"Our favourite part of the ceremony was making promises to our son to always be there for him.  It was such an emotional moment and felt much more personal than making promises to God - especially as we aren't church goers."

Sophie, Llangollen

Defining Roles

"We loved how we were still able to ask our friends to be God Parents, it meant so much to us.  Our parents were also thrilled to be involved in the ceremony as our daughter is their first grandchild.  The whole ceremony made us all feel closer as a family and we will never forget it."

Clare & Lee, Rhyl

"I couldn’t have asked for a better ceremony, it was absolutely perfect.  Sarah catered to our every need, her attention to detail was amazing. It’s a day I will remember forever! I’ll 100% be recommending her to anyone wanting a naming ceremony!"

What Happens At The Ceremony?

Each ceremony is special and unique in its own way and is guaranteed to become a special memory you will cherish forever.  Most people are only familiar with religious ceremonies for children so below is an outline of what you can expect to happen at a Naming Day Ceremony:

INTRODUCTION

I will welcome your guests and thank them on your behalf for attending, I will also briefly explain what the ceremony is for.

READING

A poem or reading of your choice either read by a guest or myself.  If you are unsure what readings/poems may be suitable I am able to make suggestions for you to choose from.

NAMING OF THE CHILD/CHILDREN

I will ask you to confirm the name or names you have chosen for your child/children with an opportunity to explain why the names were chosen.

PARENT'S PROMISES

Here you will make your own promises to be the best parent you can be.  You can either read them yourself or I will read them out to which you will respond "I will".  These promises can be written by you or I can provide some ideas for you to choose from.

SUPPORTING ADULTS' PROMISES

You can choose as many people as you wish to be Supporting Adults/Godparents and they will make promises here to your child/children to help in their upbringing.  They can include individual promises if each person has a certain talent they wish to share/teach, they can be read as a group or similar to parent's promises they can respond with "We will".

GRANDPARENT'S PROMISES*

Quite often, grandparents are just as proud as the parents and love to get involved in the ceremony.  This is their perfect opportunity to make promises to the child/children but to also offer support to the parents as they raise and nurture their little one.

SYMBOLIC ACTION*

Create a keepsake!  Whether you want to light candles as a family or take part in a coloured sand mixing ceremony (symbolising all your individual colours joining together in an inseparable bond) there are a number of options to add something extra special to the ceremony.

SIGNING THE CERTIFICATE

This makes for a wonderful photo opportunity for your guests where the parents, the supporting adults and possibly grandparents gather at the front to sign the certificate to confirm the promises they have made during the ceremony.  The certificate is for you to keep and will be presented to your child/children at the end of the ceremony.

READING*

A poem or reading of your choice either read by a guest or myself. If you are unsure what readings/poems may be suitable I am able to make suggestions for you to choose from.

CLOSING WORDS

I will give a brief summary of what has happened during the ceremony and give a blessing to your child/children for their future before presenting them with their certificate..
